Ukraine: greenhouse vegetables continue getting up

The results of retail prices monitoring carried out by Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) prove that the price increase trend is preserved for greenhouse vegetables, first of all for cucumbers and tomatoes. Past week greenhouse tomatoes increased in price on 9%, according to AMP evaluations; greenhouse cucumber price became higher on 19% in average. Most often greenhouse tomatoes are supplied on Ukrainian markets on USD $ 2.8- 3/kg, and this price approximately corresponds to the greenhouse cucumber average price.

We'd note that prices on greenhouse tomatoes were 20%, and on greenhouse cucumbers - 11% lower in the previous year, comparing to the present moment. To the opinion of AMP analysts, price increase (comparing to the previous year) is caused both by getting up the self-cost of the commodity production resulted by more expensive energy and labor costs and by demand growth on greenhouse vegetables as a result of population incomes rise.
