Price on early cabbage in Kyiv decreased on 35% as a result of supply growth from Zakarpattya

According to information provided by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Market Information Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), today in Kyiv the prices on early cabbage of Ukrainian origin dropped down dramatically. The main reason for it, to the expert's opinion, is the rapid increase of early cabbage volumes supplied from Zakarpattya; it took place today at night on the wholesale market "Farmer", better known as "Troyeshchina".

The price decrease comparing to Tuesday amounted to 30-40%. This night it was possible to purchase the wholesale sets of early cabbage (500 kg and more) on USD $ 2.02/kg; yesterday cabbage cost USD $ 2.7-2.9/kg. Such price decrease completely ousted imported early cabbage from Kyiv market as it has been already unable to compete with the locally produced commodities.

To the opinion of AMP analysts, in a couple of days the significant growth of early cabbage supply from the other regions of Ukraine is expected (particularly from Odesa oblast) that may lead to the further price drop on this commodity. We'd also mention that in the nearest future the demand on white cabbage of 2004 harvest is prognosed to lower significantly.
