In Lviv oblast the major part of the supplied carrot, red bets and onion is imported

According to the information provided by Sergiy Gavryshev, the Market Information Specialist of Lviv office, Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), the carrot supply of Polish origin prevails over the supply of Ukrainian carrot on the main wholesale fruit and vegetable market in the western region, "Shuvar" market. The supply of Polish carrot amounts to 70% of the total volume. The locally produced and supplied from the other regions carrot is offered in the significantly lesser volumes, and in most cases the quality of the commodity is from bad to satisfactory. The price on carrot has grown since recently and amounts now to USD $ 0.69-0.85/kg on the imported commodity and up to USD $ 0.69/kg on the commodity of Ukrainian origin. This information was approved in the market info-center "Shuvar-Info" on the inquiry of the Agricultural Marketing Project. The "Shuvar" info specialists also mentioned that this same situation is observed for red beets - more than a half of the supplied red beets is of Polish origin, the deficit of this commodity is obvious, so the price has grown up to USD $ 0.59-0.65/kg. There is also lot of the imported onion on the market.

To the expert's opinion, the majority of the imported carrot and red beets is supplied to Ukraine as contraband, avoiding the custom fees and VAT payments. We'd remind that at the present moment the specific custom fee on red beets and carrot of EUR 0.2/kg is in effect. Besides, the importer should pay 20% of VAT.
