The quality of strawberries and vegetables in Poland may deteriorate because of bad weather

According to the information provided by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita with reference to the experts of the country fruit and vegetable market, the quality of strawberries and vegetables in 2005 will be worse than usual, that is caused by the unfavorable weather conditions of this year. Heavy rainfalls and lower temperatures lead also to the delayed terms of ripening for vegetables and strawberries.

An average wholesale price on strawberry in Poland was on Friday about USD $ 0.89/kg that approximately corresponds to the average prices on Ukrainian market.

As is known, Poland is the largest strawberry producer in the EU and one of the main suppliers of cooled and frozen strawberry in the world. At the same time the share of Poland on the EU strawberry market has decreased during the recent years because of the competition growth from the side of China and Morocco.
