Onion can be purchase on USD 0.13/kg on the South of Ukraine - wholesale companies

At the present moment the increased supply of the newly harvest onion is observed on the Ukrainian markets, so the average prices are going down. The farmers are still trying to sell onion on USD 0.19-0.29/kg; however, some market players inform about the possibility to purchase onion in bulk on USD 0.13/kg.

At the same time in the previous year the wholesale prices on onion were on average USD 0.05-0.07/kg lower and seldom exceeded USD 0.13/kg. If we take into consideration the favorable weather conditions, which benefit now to a rather good harvest of early and medium onion varieties, we can suppose the further price decrease on this commodity in the nearest weeks.

According to the evaluations of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the self-cost of 1 kg of onion will fluctuate this year within USD 0.05-0.19/kg.

The key role on the Ukrainian onion market is usually played by the producers from Cherkasy and Odesa oblast, which perform nearly the half of all onion supplies to the other regions of Ukraine. The main sales channels from these oblasts are the large cities and western regions of Ukraine.
