The retail prices on vegetables decreased 6% during a month in Ukraine - AMP

The seasonal price decrease on vegetables goes on in Ukraine, according to the data of the weekly monitoring of retail prices conducted by the Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP). During the last month the prices on vegetables decreased 6%, according to the AMP analysts' evaluations.

The retail prices on white cabbage went down the most significantly; this crop cheapened 30%. The trend of price decrease on this commodity will hopefully be preserved, as late varieties started to come on market. AMP decreased the prognosed yield of this crop; the production of white cabbage is expected to be lesser 5% than in the previous year. Besides, dry weather has set up in the major production regions recently, so the yield of late cabbage varieties may be lower than expected. That is why the long-term price forecast remains positive.

During the past month the retail prices on carrot, tomatoes, red beets, potato and pepper have gone down significantly. At the same time, the retail price on garlic jumped up extremely (on 25%). Cucumber, bulb onion and egg-plants grew dearer too.

To the opinion of the AMP analysts, we can expect the stabilization of the cucumber prices in the nearest future. As soon as the first frosts come in the second half of September, the prices on thermophile vegetables will grow.

We'll remind that you can know more "at first hand" about the price in the strategic perspectives during the second international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005" to be held in the first decade of December 2005 in Kyiv, on the territory of the National Complex Expocenter of Ukraine.
