Yekhanurov appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine
On September 22 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko by a Decree appointed Yuri Yekhanurov Prime Minister of Ukraine, following approval of his candidacy by Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine earlier that day.
Yekhanurov, born 1948 in a Russian north-eastern region of Yakutia, since 1993 was occupying a number of top positions in Ukrainian government. Since April 1, 2005 until the appointment in question held the post of Chairman of Dnepropetrovsk Regional State Administration.
