Aiming at banning raw sugar imports
As Interfax Ukraina reported last week, Ukrainian government is likely to yield to local sugar producers' pressure on banning give-and-take raw sugar transactions that are currently serving the bakery industry.
As of Mar 25th, 2002 Ukrainian govt and AIC's professional associations have concluded a memorandum coordinating actions of the latter on the said issue.
Ukrainian Vice-Premier Kozachenko believes that Ukraine is capable of meeting needs of local bakery industry and importing of raw sugar is not necessary.
He also suggested that minimum sugar prices should be reviewed because the latter do not correspond to the market price.
