The period of onion harvesting is finished in Odessa oblast: the producers speak about good harvest and good price
According to the data of the retail price monitoring on the central Privoz market in Odessa, during summer the price on bulb onion was considerably higher comparing to the previous year level. At the present moment the average wholesale prices are fluctuating within USD 0.16/kg, and the trend of their slow increase is observed. To the opinion of the Agronomist, Odesa office, Agricultural Marketing Project, the weather conditions were more favorable this year. Those producers who followed the protection technology, mainly against mildew, and whose fields were not damaged by hail, achieved higher average yield per hectare. The majority of the grown onion is expected to be well stored, so that many producers are keeping bulb onion waiting for the further price increase.
