Onion and apple are cheapening in Poland despite of the increasing supplies to Ukraine
According to the information provided by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly the slow price decrease on apple and onion goes on in Poland, it is caused by a lack of demand from the side of Russia. We remind that in November Russia banned fruit and vegetable import from Poland, and the country has been not able to find the solution with the Russian authorities till today. To the experts' opinion, there is a little chance for the problem to be solved before the start of active supplies in January; that's why Polish supplies are forced to decrease prices right now.
Ukraine decreased import tax on apples since the 1st of December, but the increase of apple supplies to Ukraine can not fully compensate the lost Russian market. The export volumes to Ukraine are still insignificant comparing to the Russian market demand. Nevertheless, some Polish wholesalers have practically finished purchasing apples, and they are hoping for the larger apple supplies to Ukrainian market in the nearest future. The most popular apple varieties for Ukrainian consumers are Aidared, Champion, Jonagored and Golden Delicious. The purchase volumes for medium price apples are significantly greater than for the expensive varieties.
The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly point out that the demand on cabbage and some root crops is still insufficient in Poland despite of the coming holidays; the mentioned products cost more this year than in 2006. The prices on greenhouse vegetables have already started growing.
