Belarus banned agriproducts imports from the whole of Ukraine

Since December 23, 2005 State Veterinary Department of Belarus has suspended issuing certificates for imports of the products subject to veterinary control from entire territory of Ukraine, APK-Inform has learnt from State Veterinary Inspector of Belarus Vitaly Masarnovsky.

Masarnovsky said that the ban had been introduced for an indefinite term. "Everything will depend on how the situation with bird flu is developing in Ukraine," he said.

Earlier Belarus had already banned imports of veterinary-controlled products from the territories of the Crimea, Kherson, Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk Oblasts. The Belarusian authorities have motivated the ban by bird flu infection outburst in the Crimea. The measures, introduced by Belarus, have already produced negative effect on Ukrainian market of sunflower meal.

According to the latest reports of the Ministry for Emergency Situations, as of the current moment there have been 70,000 heads of poultry slaughtered in the Crimea.
