Frosts seriously damaged orcharding industry in Simferopol rayon

According to the information provided to Trans-M-Radio by Vladimir Zakalichny, the Chief of Agricultural Development Department, Simferopol Rayon State Administration, because of frosts a catastrophic situation has been formed in orcharding and vinicultural industries of the rayon. Future peach and apricot harvest died 100% during January frosts, 90% of sweet and sour cherry harvest is lost. Pear orchards lost 70% of harvest, and apple loss in the rayon will be more than 30%, according to the most optimistic evaluations.

Frosts killed fully the table grape varieties in the vineyards, technical varieties are lost 90%. Moreover, V. Zakalichny admits the possibility that frost-injured young fruit trees and grape cane shoots will not fruit next year too.

Greenhouse industry of Simferopol rayon suffered from frost too. Vegetables on 4.5 ha were killed by frosts fully, that makes 10% of the vegetable acreage culltivated under cover. In this regard the local agricultural producers take emergency measures trying to repair frost-damaged greenhouses and replant the seeds for vegetable transplants.
