Potato, carrot and cabbage prices are decreasing in Kyiv

According to the information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Wholesale Price Monitoring Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project, price decrease on potato, carrot and cabbage is observed on FARMER wholesale market of Troyeshchina rayon in Kyiv. The supply is enough, no vegetable deficit is observed. Good quality potato is sold $ 0.43-0.47/kg in small wholesale, that is $0.02-0.04/kg cheaper than a week ago. Carrot cheapened too, now this product costs $0.45-0.49/kg. Cabbage cheapened even more significantly, now it costs $0.39-0.45/kg that is $0.03-0.04/kg less than a week ago.

So, the prognosed price decrease on the mentioned crops confirms to a significant extent the forecast done by the Agricultural Marketing Project earlier. To the experts' opinion, the situation proves existence of large enough vegetable stock in the storages, to the contrary of some market players' reports. High prices were mainly formed by the expectations of price increase, but not by the objective situation. At the same time, frost have injured a significant part of stocks, the experts think it is no sense waiting for low prices this season.

Comparing to the prices observed at the same period of time past year, carrot and potato prices are higher three times, cabbage price is higher 1.5 times in 2006.
