Greenhouse vegetables and fresh herbs are cheapening, root beets and apples are growing expensive in Poland
Polish trade companies inform about the continuing price growth on root beets and potato on 2005 harvest. And, apples have grown expensive recently; to the opinion of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the demand growth from the side of Ukraine caused price increase. Ukrainian and Polish companies are probably trying to export as much apples as possible till the 1st of April 2006 when the preferential rate of import tax is out of action.
To the opinion of the experts of Polish produce business, high apple prices are partially explained by the trend of orchard grubbing and decrease of apple production because of the relatively low profitability of this business. Apple concentrate producers suffer the most in this situation as they got used to purchase apples on much lower price.
Apple and root crops prices growth is observed on the background of price decrease on vegetables and fresh herbs supplied by greenhouse farms and enterprises. In particular, greenhouse cucumber and tomato prices have decreased significantly recently, fresh herbs are cheapening too. The prices on greenhouse produce are decreasing slowly in Ukraine too; but the prices on past year harvested produce are decreasing as well. According to the information provided by the experts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, potato and cabbage prices tend to decrease now, onion price has gone down too.
