Early cabbage price declined down to $ 0.68/kg in Kyiv

Early cabbage price for small shipments has declined today down to $0.68/kg on FARMER market in Kyiv, according to the information provided by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Wholesale Price Monitoring Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project. The majority of cabbage is delivered from Zakarpattya: today cabbage costs there up to $0.58/kg.

Such price for early cabbage confirms the experts' forecasts regarding the significant acreage extension for this crop, according to the opinion of Maksim Yenchenko, the Market Information Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project. Cabbage price declined 20-30% comparing to past year price; there is a reason to suppose that this year demand for early cabbage is higher than it was a year ago. It indicates the advanced supply growth. However, the total price level for early cabbage remains feasible for the producers. Unless the market springs a surprise, the producers are likely to extend early cabbage acreage next year as well.

We'd like to remind that in this period of time in 2004 early cabbage cost $0.29-0.39/kg, in 2003 the producers sold early cabbage for only $0.13-0.19/kg.
