Onion has risen in price in Kyiv

According to information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal by Anatoliy Yarovoy, the Wholesale Price Monitoring Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project, today the minimal price for small onion shipments has risen up to $0.54/kg on FARMER market in Kyiv. Good quality onion is sold for about $ 0.64-0.68/kg. Onion supply is limited; there is no imported produce for sale. We'd like to remind that a week ago onion price was around $0.39-0.43/kg in Kyiv.

Onion price is still kept on level $0.39-0.43/kg in Lviv; market players explain this fact by onion supplies from Poland. The price growth trend is also observed here, but it is not so intense comparing to the price situation in Kyiv.

The companies, which store onion, have reported about increasing number of calls received recently from wholesale companies regarding onion purchase. The companies forecast onion price to reach its peak mid June. Still they mention difficulties to evaluate the onion stocks in Ukraine and, consequently, to correctly define future onion price.
