Early cabbage and squash oversupply, early potato deficit are observed on market

According to information provided to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal by players of Ukrainian produce market, the beginning of this week was marked by the reduced supply of early potato, so the price for this commodity jumped up. Comparing to Friday, the price for early cabbage increased 20% on Kyiv wholesale market, and 22% on KOPANI wholesale market in Kherson oblast. Roman Rybalko, the Price Monitoring Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project, says that the wholesale shipments of early potato are quickly sold out.

At the same time, excessive supply of early cabbage is still observed on Ukrainian market. The price for this commodity was on a rather low level ($0.07-0.09/kg in southern oblasts); according to information of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the price decreased 1-2% comparing to past Friday. The price decrease for squash was the most significant. This commodity declined in price more than twice in Kherson oblast, and one third in average in Kyiv.

The price decrease for strawberry and cherry goes on. But, wholesale prices for berries are still 2-3 times higher than a year ago. The decrease of average daily temperatures and abundant rainfalls in many regions will lead to additional losses of berry harvest, to the specialists' opinion. The prices are likely to stay high during this week.
