Water-melons remain 1.5 times cheaper than a year ago

Market players point out the significantly greater supply of water-melon this year comparing to the previous season. Water-melon prices are in average 30% lower than they were at the same period of time past year. As of today, the wholesale price for water-melon is $0.03-0.05/kg in Kherson oblast, $0.11-0.15/kg in Kyiv and $0.09-0.13/kg in Lviv. Water-melon is sold in retail trade for $0.11-0.15/kg in the South of Ukraine, $0.15-0.23/kg in the central oblasts and down to $0.29/kg in the western oblasts.

To the analysts' opinion, the cultivation areas of water-melon have been extended more than one third in the South of Ukraine, the leading producer of this crop. The producers inform that the yield also significantly exceeds the past year level, as a rule.
