The prices for cabbage, onion and cucumber declined; tomato price is growing

The Price Monitoring Specialists of the Agricultural Marketing Project inform that, comparing to the previous Friday, the wholesale price for white cabbage decreased 3-5%; the same price decline was observed for broccoli, Pekinese, red cabbage and cauliflowers. During the same period of time the price for salad onion dramatically decreased (14% in average) and less significantly for bulb onion (5%). To the opinion of the Project analysts, this price situation can be explained by the continuous harvesting of these crops and their supply growth on market.

At the same time, the continuing potato harvesting did not make the wholesale price to decline. Moreover, an average price for this commodity has even increased since the recent week. The season of field tomato and egg-plant harvesting is close to be finished now - and the prices have grown 15-25% recently.

It is worth mentioning that an average price decrease for cucumber constituted 10-15% despite of the fact that the season of field cucumber is also close to an end. Quite possible, that this situation is caused by good weather conditions and greater cucumber harvesting before the end of season.
