Wholesale prices for dill have increased more than 100% during three days

According to information of the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal specialists, the prices for dill have grown more than 100% since the beginning of this week. On Monday the wholesale prices for dill were limited to $1.37/kg; by Wednesday the minimal sales price has reached $2.94/kg. The prices for parsley remain stable within the limits of $1.27/kg.

The Market Information Specialists of the "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal asked large producers of fresh herbs to comment the situation. The representatives of the farms said that the harvesting of field dill was finished past weekend. This dill was planted about 40 days ago. As a result, the total supply of dill has decreased on market. Dill is very sensitive to weather fluctuations: this crop rots because of excess moisture and gets frozen quickly under influence of low temperatures.

Talking about parsley, this crop is moisture- and frost-resistant; parsley preserves good condition even covered with snow. The stable prices for parsley at the present moment can be explained by this fact. As of today, small shipments of greenhouse dill and pepper enter markets. The price for these commodities is gradually growing because the demand for fresh herbs is high.

The producers of greenhouse fresh herbs admit that the prices for their commodities are likely to grow by the end of this week: the price for dill will rise up to $3.52/kg; for parsley - $ 1.37-1.56/kg, for green onion - up to $ 2.35/kg. It is expected that first wholesale shipments of Georgian fresh herbs enter Ukrainian market in December. The expert of AgVantage Project, Georgia, will present the details of fresh herbs production and export development in his country during the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" to be held in Kyiv on December 5th - 6th 2006.
