Vegetables are growing expensive in Crimea
According to information provided by Crimean office of the Agricultural Marketing Project, a stable growth of the retail prices for vegetables has been observed two recent weeks. During the period 15th to 27th October the retail prices for carrot, table beets, and pepper has increased 10-20%. The price change corresponds to the wholesale price growth in the region. The price for tomatoes has grown threefold; for cucumbers - 30% in average on retail and wholesale prices.
The producers mention bad weather to be the main reason for price growth for root crops and cabbage; the harvesting process is deteriorated by that fact. The price growth for tomato and cucumber is connected with the finished harvesting period and dramatic reduction of the supply. Cold weather has killed the remnants of these crops in fields.
A certain price decrease for onion and potato (up to 10%) is observed. Most storages have already accumulated sufficient reserves of the mentioned crops; now the farmers are selling out the excessive stocks.
