Nearly one half of table apples on Kyiv markets is of Polish origin

According to information provided by the Price Monitoring Specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", almost one half of variety table apples on Kyiv markets are imported. For example, the supplies of national variety apples are nearly 60%; the import constitutes 40% on the largest Kyiv wholesale produce market FARMER. Main apple supplies come to Ukraine from Poland; the share of Polish apples is not less than 90% in the imported volumes.

Most Ukrainian apples on market are of Jonathan, Jonagold, Idared, Mutsu variety; small wholesale shipments are sold for $0.58-0.98/kg. Polish apples of Golden Delicious variety are sold for $ 1.07/kg, Champion variety for $ 1/kg, Mutsu and Simirenko varieties for $ 1/kg too.

We'd like to remind that at the present moment the import tax for apples of EUR0.5/kg is in force. Taking into account VAT payments and transport expenses, we can conclude that Polish apples should be purchased for not more than $0.13-0.15/kg to be sold for $ 1/kg in Ukraine. At the same time, the price monitoring on Polish BRONISZE market shows that the wholesale shipments of variety apples are sold for $0.43-0.52/kg. We can suggest that not all imported apples come to Ukraine legally.
