Main past-week events of the produce market
The specialists of the Information Department, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal selected the major changes which were observed on fruit and vegetable market past week.
As it has been forecasted, the wholesale companies started increasing the sales prices for citrus fruits due to the fact that the demand for these commodities began to significantly grow. The specialists explained this fact by the seasonal factor; so this situation was not surprising for anyone. Market players forecasted the further price growth for citrus fruits and bananas in accordance with the demand growth for these commodities.
The price growth also continued for greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers past week as a result of supply shortage of these commodities on market. At the present moment greenhouse vegetables are delivered to Ukraine from Turkey and Poland. Still, these shipments are not enough to fully satisfy the consumers' demand. As a consequence of a great demand and short supply, the prices for short greenhouse cucumber have reached $1.76/kg. The specialists forecast the further price growth for these commodities.
According to information, the supplies of Russian potato to Ukraine continued past week. The market players pointed out the good quality of Russian potato which production cost corresponded to the cost of national produce. As a result, the wholesale companies were noticeably interested in Russian potato.
Egg-plant harvesting was fully finished past week in the farms. The supply of these commodities changed at once. The supplies of egg-plants were fully absent on many markets. The specialists also reported that the supplies of national pepper are likely to stop soon as the harvesting season is practically over in Ukraine.
