In 2006 Ukraine will import more than 0.5 mln. tons of tropic fruits - AMP forecast

In the framework of the preparation to the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project are working on the forecast of the situation development on produce market in the remaining months 2006 and in 2007. The experts will present the results of this investigation in their reports during the conference.

The forecast of tropic fruits import to Ukraine seems to be very interesting. According to the experts' evaluations, the summarized import of bananas, oranges, tangerines and lemons will exceed 500,000 tons; the import will grow 25-27% comparing to 2005.

Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project says that the import of tangerines will grow the most dramatically (up to 80%) in 2006. This product consumption is likely to leave behind orange consumption for the first time since 2001. Traditionally, the largest specific weight of tropic fruit import accounts for bananas - this product constitutes around 40% of the gross import. To the expert's opinion, bananas import can grow 7-9% up to 260-270,000 tons in 2006. In total, 630-650,000 tons of tropic fruits can be delivered to Ukraine in 2006.

More details about the perspectives of produce import and export will be presented to the participants of the conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market" to be held in Kyiv on December 5th-6th 2006. We remind that around two weeks are left by the end of registration of the participants.
