Kiwi harvest season is over in Ukraine

According to information provided by the periodical "Yalta News", this year the state enterprise LIVADIA has harvested around one ton of kiwi, the exotic fruits for Ukraine. LIVADIA enterprise operates in the structure of National Production-Agrarian Company MASSANDRA.

The record harvest of this fruit (5.7 tons) in Crimea was gathered past year by LIVADIA enterprise. The enterprise specialists explain low harvest 2006 by poor weather conditions, severe winter frosts in particular.

According to the source, LIVADIA enterprise has been producing kiwi for the seventh year already. The plantation of this fruit (0.63 ha) is located near Korneiz, the suburb of Yalta. State enterprise LIVADIA (Yalta, Crimea) specializes on the production of grape and vine materials. The acreage of the enterprise vineyards is 312 hectares, 271 ha of which are exploitative. In 2006 LIVADIA harvested 1,873 tons of grapes.

Kiwi is becoming more and more popular in the world. Quite recently most part of this commodity has been supplied by New Zealand; now many world countries produce this crop. This fruit has adopted quite well for Italian conditions; the country has become the largest kiwi producer in Europe. At the present moment first commercial plantations start fruiting in Georgia. Traditionally, the aggressive development of kiwi production technologies in China is of the greatest interest; some serious investments have been made to this industry.
