Prices for Polish apple continue decreasing

Polish market players inform that the trend of the price decrease for dessert apples has been preserved till the present moment. During the previous week an average wholesale price for apple has decreased 5-9% in Poland, according to evaluations of the Agricultural Marketing Project.

To the addition to greater than expected production, extremely warm autumn significantly influences the price decline too. Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project, tells about many Polish apple producers who do not have own refrigerated storages. They have to hurry selling apples which are getting spoiled in temporary storages because of high average day temperatures. So, at the present moment many of the producers are ready to come round with the price. This week apples for export to Ukrainian market were sold even for $0.19/kg in several regions of Poland.

In the conditions of the official ban to export this product to Russian market such low prices for quality apple in Poland make Polish producers and exporters look for the opportunity to sell products on Ukrainian market. Also, Polish wholesalers are interested to purchase large shipments of onion in Ukraine. This product costs too expensive on Polish market this year, and the onion stocks are insufficient to cover the demand of this country till the next season.

Polish produce companies are very interested in Ukrainian market. This fact is confirmed by participation of 15 produce business experts from Poland in the third international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2006. Open Market". The owner of one of the large wholesale companies will tell about the opportunities provided by the possible cooperation between Ukrainian firms and Polish companies. To the opinion of the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project, in the coming years Poland is able to become one of the rather interesting markets to sell Ukrainian vegetables, fruits and berries.
