Dill prices continue rising
According to information provided by the experts of the weekly periodical of Ukrainian produce business, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, diverse price trends have been formed on fresh herbs market. In the end of past week the prices for dill and parsley were on the same level ($3.13-3.52/kg); the prices were gradually growing proportionally to the demand growth for these products. As of today, the prices for dill continue growing; but, the vendors of parsley have to reduce prices because of oversupply. According to information provided by the periodical, at the present moment the prices for dill have reached $5.88/kg, the prices for parsley have declined down to $2.94/kg. At the same time, vendors do not change the prices for green onion; this product costs about $1.96-2.35/kg.
The specialists explained these changes by several factors. First of all, importers supply most part of dill available on market at this moment. The main suppliers are Georgia, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. At the same time, the market players mentioned that national farms provide significant shipments of parsley and green onion. This fact directly influences the supply growth of the mentioned products in all regions of Ukraine. In view of abnormally warm weather, the supply of national fresh herbs remains great.
To the opinion of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the other reason for the mentioned trends is different storage periods for parsley, dill and green onion. The specialists state that parsley can be stored for significantly longer period of time than dill. So, the repeating supply breaks do not affect the market much. The other important factor is the higher demand for dill than for parsley on the eve of New Year holidays. This factor influences the price formation on market as well.
According to the forecasts of the market players, the demand for fresh herbs will continue increasing. Soon it will stimulate sales price to grow. By the moment the national producers have supposed that the prices for fresh herbs can grow up to $11.7-13.7/kg this winter. However, the supplies of Georgian fresh herbs to Russia have still been banned. So, the probability of such a dramatic price growth is not very high.
