Mushrooms enjoy increased demand

The experts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal mentioned that the demand for fresh mushrooms has noticeably increased before the holidays. In this regard the producers have started to reconsider sales prices upward starting from the beginning of this week. Despite of this fact, the sales volumes of fresh mushrooms are constantly growing. Some companies mention that they are not always able to satisfy the demand on market. Also, Ukrainian producers pointed out an insignificant level of competition from the side of fresh imported mushroom of Polish origin this season.

Nevertheless, the market specialists point out that the prices for mushrooms remain lower in December 2006 than in the same period of time in 2005. This year the wholesale price for champignon is $1.76-2.05/kg, for oyster mushroom - $1.66-1.96/kg.
