Livestock production in Russia in June
According to the Statistics Committee of Russian Federation, as of 1 July 2002 the number of cattle in all categories of farming businesses was estimated at 29.2 million heads, which is 0.3 percent less compared with the same date last year. This includes 12.3 million cows (3.2 percent less). There are also 17.9 million pigs (6.2 percent more), 18.2 million sheep and goats (4.4 percent more).
In the total head of livestock the share of individual households was 41.6 percent in cattle, 47.2 percent in pigs, 61.1 percent in sheep and goats (by 1 July 2001 the percentage had been 40.1, 48.2 and 61.7 correspondingly).
During the first six months of this year farming businesses of all categories produced 2.8 million tonnes of animal and poultry meat in live weight, 17.3 million tonnes of milk, 18.2 billion eggs.
