Cheap onion from Ukraine cut down prices on Polish market
According to information provided by Polish trade sources to the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the supply of Ukrainian onion continues growing on Polish market. In addition to the supplies done by Polish firms, the wholesalers inform about a growing number of Ukrainian trucks coming to Polish wholesale markets. They trade onion for a relatively low price independently.
Nevertheless, the supply growth of a relatively cheap onion from Ukraine has not resulted yet in the price decrease for onion in Poland. The thing is, onion stocks are insignificant on the inner market. The increase of onion shipments from Ukraine let the prices be somewhat stabilized, though the price growth trend is still preserved on market. At the same time the price for onion remains stable on the inner market of Ukraine - $0.13-0.19/kg. It is possible to buy a large wholesale shipment of onion for $120/ton in the main production regions of Ukraine. Just to compare - the cheapest onion on BRONISZE market
(Warsaw) costs $0.39/kg; an average price is around $0.49/kg.
So, the forecasts of the specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal about the possible growth of onion supplies to Polish market are coming true. Moreover, it is interesting to mention that a growing number of Ukrainian wholesalers find ways to export onion independently instead of onion supplies to large Polish buyers. One more interesting fact is that some large Ukrainian producers supply onion directly to Polish markets; this way they solve the sales problem. It is possible that the volumes of Ukrainian onion export will exceed the preliminary forecasted data this season.
