The Ministry of Agrarian Politics distributed quota for sugar production during 2001/2002 season between 143 sugar plants

Decree of the Ministry of Agrarian Politics of July 16, 2001 #213 distributes quota in the amount of 2 million tons for beet sugar production during 2001/2002 season between 143 domestic sugar plants.

Heads of major departments of agriculture and food of oblast administrations and regional administrations were commissioned in 10 day period distribute between beet cultivating farms amounts of sugar beet to be grown for sugar production within the quota.

Quota for beet sugar production for domestic consumption is set by the Ministry of Agrarian Politics according to the Law "On state regulation of sugar production and selling".

During 2000/2001 season 147 sugar plants worked, which is 18 plants more than during a previous season. Sugar production totaled 1.540 million tons. There are 192 sugar plants in Ukraine, total capacity of which is over 5 million tons yearly. The domestic demand in sugar is estimated by specialists as 2 million tons.

The Ministry of Agrarian Politics forecasts production of sugar from sugar beet of 2001 crop at the level of 2 million tons.
