Fruit and vegetable production, including potato, will grow 6% in 2007 - "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" forecasts

The analysts of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal" conducted the survey of the perspectives of fruit and vegetable production and prices in 2007 in Ukraine. According to this survey, the total production of fruits, vegetables and potato may increase 6% in 2007. The research is based on the poll conducted among the representative professional producers in all regions of Ukraine.

Andriy Yarmak, the Analyst of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal says that the general production growth is predetermined, first of all, by the increased cultivation areas for potato and the expected growth of the average fruit yield. According to the tentative estimations, at the same time the acreage and the yield of vegetable crops (discounting potato) will reduce 3-5% and 1-3% respectively. To the expert's opinion, the interesting trend to mention is the extension of the berry cultivation areas and the expected increase of berry production. Strawberry is becoming the leader among the other filed berries as for its growth rates - the cultivation areas of this crop are extended practically throughout the country.
