Prices for early and greenhouse vegetables significantly decreased in 2007

In line with the forecasts of the analysts of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal", the prices for early vegetables are significantly lower early May this year than at the same period of time in 2006. This conclusion is confirmed by the data of the price monitoring conducted on the wholesale markets in various regions of Ukraine. Milder winter and relatively warm spring are the main reasons of the price decrease comparing to the previous year. This year weather let the growers have early vegetables two-three weeks sooner than in 2006.

The price for early cabbage is 14% lower now than a year ago in Kyiv. Green onion is twice as cheap; parsley and dill are 30-40% cheaper. It is worth mentioning that the prices for past-year harvested vegetables, but for cabbage, are also significantly lower than in 2006. Cauliflower and Pekinese cabbage are 40% cheaper, potato - 20%, bulb onion - 25%, carrot - 60%, table beet - 40-45% cheaper. White cabbage is 5% more expensive in 2007 than a year ago.

Greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes have recently gone much cheaper; the prices for these products were significantly higher than in 2006 in the beginning of the season. At the present moment the prices for the greenhouse vegetables are in average 15-20% lower than a year ago.
