The supply of national sweet cherry grows on wholesale markets of Ukraine
The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the CIS produce business periodical, inform that the supply of sweet cherry by the farms of southern oblasts and Zakarpattya increases day by day on the wholesale markets of almost all regions of the country. The producers have not been able yet to completely evaluate the harvest 2007: the harvesting of the earliest sweet cherry varieties goes on right now. The specific weight of these varieties is insignificant in the total harvest. The producers observe a high demand both from the side of the national buyers and the foreign wholesale companies (mostly Russian ones).
As of today, the prices for sweet cherry are within the range $1.4-3/kg on the wholesale markets of Ukraine depending on the quality and the size of shipment. The producers set the sales prices in a lower price segment ($1-2/kg).
According to the forecasts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal, the sales prices will gradually decline in line with the new large shipments of sweet cherry supplied to the markets. The active harvesting period for sweet cherry will start this year in the first decade of June in most farms. According to the forecasts, the minimal wholesale prices for Ukrainian sweet cherry are to be observed that time.
