Ukraine forces Netherlands out of Russian market of bulb onion
FreshPlaza.com informs, Russia remains the main sales market for bulb onion producers from Netherlands; however, the volumes of onion supplies to Russian market have decreased almost fourfold this year, 152,000 tons down to 41,000 tons.
At the same time, ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal" informs, Ukraine confidently seized the Dutch initiative related to the bulb onion supplies to Russian companies. In 2007 Ukrainian companies weekly supplied around 1,000-1,500 tons of onion to Russian market. So, according to the tentative estimations of the periodical, around 23-30,000 tons of onion have been exported from Ukraine to Russia till early June.
The total onion export from Ukraine may exceed 65-70 thousands tons in season 2006/07, according to the forecasts of Andriy Yarmak, the manager of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project.
