World pear production grows by fast rates

According to USDA data, the global pear production will grow 6% in the season 2006/07; it will exceed 17 mln. tons, FreshPlaza informs. The volumes of the international pear trade grow in the world too. USDA estimates that they can exceed the top record $900 mln. in a new season.

China remains the largest pear producer in the world; the country continues increasing the production volumes. Pear production increased 10% in 2006 in China up to 12.4 mln. tons (i.e. around 73% of the global production!). Nevertheless, China exports only 3% of the production. Argentina is the largest pear exporter; past year this country earned around EUR 250 mln. due to pear export. Argentina's share is around 23% of the global pear trade. Around 25% of the world volume of pear export is allocated to all EU countries.

Pear is a traditional fruit for Ukraine and Russia. Груша является традиционным фруктом в Украине и России. ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly", the average annual pear production in Ukraine is 130-160,000 tons. Ukraine is the large importer of quality pears, which are mostly supplied from Poland. To the opinion of the experts of the periodical, the development of pear production has a good potential in Ukraine.
