Tomato price collapse on Russian market
According to information provided by the experts of CIS produce business periodical, ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly", tomatoes keep on cheapening on the market of Russian Federation. The rates of price decline have significantly speeded up since the beginning of this week.
Market players explain this trend by the bulk supplies of field tomatoes from the southern regions of the country. Also, national greenhouse complexes are actively selling their products on market. The major volumes of greenhouse tomato are sold for $0.7 to $1.17/kg; field tomatoes are supplied for the price $ 0.39 to 0.7/kg on Russian market. The supermarkets prefer trading greenhouse tomatoes, which stand transportation better, have longer shelf life and appeal by a more attractive marketable look.
The specialists of ""Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" also inform about the increased export supplies of Ukrainian tomatoes to Russian market; this fact also presses the prices on the inner market of Russia. The increased supplies of imported tomato became possible because of the price decline for tomato on the inner market of Ukraine. Today the producers set the sales price in the range $0.12 to 0.19/kg, which is very attractive for the exporters.
