Water melon Prices in Kherson Oblast Are Two-Three Times Higher Than Those Last Year
According to analysts of journal of CIS fruit and vegetable business "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" , heat and drought resulted in essential decline in yield and quality of Ukrainian water melons grown traditionally primarily in Kherson oblast.
Nowadays, the wholesale price for water melons exceeds last year one two or three times at the wholesale fruit and vegetable market "Kopany". If past season it was possible to buy a high-quality field water melon for UAH 0.10-0.15/ kilo, and wholesale prices were within UAH 0.2-0.3/ kilo, this season they are sold at the market for more that UAH 0.45-0.50, and prices for high-quality products are approximately UAH 0.8-0.7/ kilo.
Such high water melon prices decrease export attractiveness, however, the price difference for this product in Ukraine and EU countries is yet essential enough. For example, in neighboring Poland water melons are sold twice as expensive.
