Ukraine: fruit&vegetable production exceeded 30 mln. tons in 2007 up to the record high level
Despite of the dramatically decreased volumes of vegetable production in 2007, the general production of all fruit&vegetable products (potato, vegetables, berries, melons&watermelons, and fruits) exceeded 30 mln. tons up to a record high level. This conclusion is proved by the results of the survey conducted by the analysts of CIS produce business periodical "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly in the framework of preparation of Production and Price Forecast for fruits and vegetables in the season 2007/08. According to the experts' estimations, the production was 0.7% and 225,000 tons as high than in the previous period.
It is worth mentioning that the production increase became possible due to the increased potato and fruit harvests. Moreover, the specific weight of potato in fruit&vegetable production of Ukraine reaches 70%. Fruit production increased in 2007 as well, although it was considerably lower than the potentially possible as a result of losses caused by frosts, drought and heat.
