Ukraine: demand for cabbage declined because of price increase

The number of deals on cabbage sales has significantly reduced in Ukraine after sellers' attempts to increase prices past week.

To the opinion of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" specialists, the situation is primarily stimulated by information circulating among the producers about the dramatically decreased yield of late cabbage varieties in the farms. As a result, cabbage prices may considerably increase as soon as in the first half of winter.

In this regard some sellers of winter varieties slow down the trade now; they are making attempts to increase prices. As of today, the sales prices for cabbage on Kyiv wholesale market amount to $ 0.28-0.3/kg.

Wholesale companies responded to these actions by the reduction of purchased volumes. To their opinion, cabbage deficit is possible only in the second half of winter. There are sufficient volumes of cabbage on market now; the price growth is groundless. Many buyers are sure, that the farms without equipped storages will have to resume sales in the nearest future; otherwise their products will start perishing, that affects product value first of all.
