Potato is 48% more expensive on the East than on the West of Ukraine

Daily wholesale price monitoring, conducted by the experts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project, proves that the price difference for potato among various regions of Ukraine is still significant enough, so that the additional opportunities are created to increase the efficiency of inner trade.

As of today, the wholesale price for potato is fluctuating $0.22-0.24/kg on wholesale fruit&vegetable SHUVAR market in Lvov. The producers of Lvovskaya, Volynskaya, Rivnenskaya and Ivano-Frankovskaya regions are ready to sell potato $0.02-0.04/kg cheaper; potato is purchased even for cheaper price from the population. At the same time, the average price for potato on the wholesale markets of Donetskaya and Luganskaya regions, and also AR Crimea is $0.32-0.36/kg.

To compare: the wholesale prices for potato are $0.12-0.14/kg in Poland and $0.26-0.3/kg in Moscow. So, we need to say that potato supplies are almost "not passable" as for the price; at the same time, potato imports from Poland have been already pressing prices down in the western regions of Ukraine.

Andriy Yarmak, the Head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project, will present the detailed price forecast for potato in December-June, and also perspectives of its production in 2008 during the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007.
