Ukraine: one of the most successful seasons for greenhouse tomatoes is almost over

According to information provided by the specialists of CIS produce business weekly "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the season of greenhouse tomatoes comes to an end in Ukraine. The majority of greenhouse enterprises of the country are harvesting the final shipments of products; they are getting ready to a new season. At the same time, quality of the products on wholesale markets and supermarkets obviously deteriorated, because bulk supplies of Turkish greenhouse tomato have not started yet.

To the opinion of the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", greenhouse complexes of Ukraine are satisfied with the current season. Despite of the low prices in the first months of the season, in summer the price for greenhouse products was higher than expected; and, in autumn the prices were 2-3 times as high comparing to past year data. One of the most pleasant news for greenhouse producers of Ukraine was the absence of problems to sell products in summer period, partially because of problematic harvest of field tomatoes and cucumbers. The increasing export supplies of greenhouse products to Russia, especially in summer period, positively influenced the market.

Andriy Yarmak, the Head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project will speak in details about production and price forecast for greenhouse products in 2008 during the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader". The event will take place on the 4th-6th of December 2007 on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" in Kyiv. Also, conference program includes the report of the representative of Netafim company, one of the world leaders in the technologies of greenhouse business. Based on the profound global experience of the company, the speaker will focus on the perspectives of greenhouse business of Ukraine with the account to the threat of price increase for energy. He will also speak on the question: what is more important for greenhouse complex - proximity to the market or climate? The representatives of greenhouse business will also be impressed by the possibility to establish direct contacts with the large buyers of greenhouse vegetables from Ukraine and Russia. The conference program also plans other presentations of interest to the specialists of greenhouse complexes, in particular reports, dedicated to the solutions of cooling, transportation and packing of fruits and vegetables.
