Production of canned fruits&vegetables dramatically declined in Ukraine

According to the data of the analytical service of CIS produce business weekly "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the production of canned fruits and vegetables has declined 36% during first nine months of 2007 comparing to the same period of time in 2006.

To the opinion of the experts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", the main reason for the declined volumes of canned fruits&vegetables production was the declined harvest of field cucumber, tomato, squash, egg-plant and other vegetable raw materials, and a consequent sharp price growth for these products. The other reason for the production to decline was large residual stocks of canned vegetables accumulated on the producers' warehouses. As a result, many producers had to significantly reduce the production plans. Some producers even did not produce canned fruits&vegetables in 2007.

According to the forecasts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" analysts, when the results of this year are available, the production of canned vegetables may even decline 50%, because the production season was much shorter this year than in 2006. In September 2007 the volumes of canned vegetables production were 49% lower than in September 2006.

You will find out the details of the price perspectives for fruit and vegetable raw materials in 2008 from the presentation of Andriy Yarmak, the Head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project. The presentation is planned for the first day of the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader". The event will take place on the 4th-6th of December 2007 on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" in Kyiv.
