Potato supply significantly exceeds demand on Ukrainian market
According to information of Market Monitoring Experts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly, Ukrainian potato producers complain on the almost total absence of demand for their products. The buyers are ready to purchase wholesale shipments of potato from the producers of main production regions for not more than $0.18-0.2/kg; at the same time, potato prices on wholesale markets reach the level $0.22-0.3/kg depending on the region.
The lowest price for potato is recorded on SHUVAR wholesale market in Lviv, the highest prices are in Lugansk, Gorlovka and Simferopol. Traditionally, the buyers of potato in AR Crimea pay the premium price (70-100% as much) for Crimean potato; however, the market players say, this potato is seldom of Crimean origin, it is produced in Khersonskaya region or other regions.
We'd like to remind that, according to the estimations done by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" analysts, potato production has increased approximately 7% in 2007 in Ukraine. Potato harvest was even better in the neighboring Poland - it has increased more sharply than in Ukraine. Potato prices are now nearly twice as low in Poland than in Ukraine.
The leading analysts will speak about the situation on potato market and price perspectives for this products in a new season the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007. Meeting New Leader". We'd like to remind that the event will take place on the 4th-6th of December 2007 on the territory of the National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" in Kyiv.
