Prices for carrot, potato and table beet are twice as high in Ukraine than in Poland
The analysts of CIS produce business periodical "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly inform that the wholesale prices for carrot, potato and table beet are approximately twice as high in Ukraine than in the neighboring Poland. The most significant price difference is observed for the sales of the quality root and beet crops.
To the opinion of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" experts, a great price difference for table beet and carrot between Polish and Ukrainian markets is predetermined by the increased production of these crops in Poland. At the same time, the harvest of these crops declined in Ukraine. The high import tariff rates between two countries limit the commodity turnover. However, carrot and table beet of Polish origin enter Ukrainian market, illegally in most cases, with no payments of fees, taxes and tariff rates.
Talking about potato, the prices for this product remain overestimated in Ukraine, to the opinion of many market players. According to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" forecast, potato production increased 7% in 2007, so we can speak about sufficient supply of this product.
You will learn about the prices for potato, carrot and table beet in December-June in Ukraine from the presentation done by Andriy Yarmak, the head of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" project in the first day of the fourth international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2007.
