Where to buy grafted seedlings of walnut?

Where can the growers buy grafted seedlings of walnut? The specialists of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" hear this question very often. This fact again confirms a high interest to the commercial production of these nuts in Ukraine and Russia. However, nobody produces grafted walnut seedlings in Ukraine, so the imports may be a real choice.

According to Alexander Zholondkovskiy, the Chairman of Moldovan Nuts Producers Association, he traveled around all the institutes and experimental stations of Ukraine which work with nuts. As a result, he was able to find only 125 grafted seedlings of walnut - enough to establish just 1.25 ha of walnut orchard. At the same time, according to A. Zholondkovskiy, he has already obtained orders of Ukrainian farmers who are willing to grow walnuts. The orders for grafted seedlings are worth to establish orchards on "dozens of thousands of hectares".

During the first first international nuts forum in Kyiv on January 31st 2008 Mr. Zholondkovskiy will share Moldova's experience in nuts production development. He will also tell where the farmers can actually purchase sufficient number of nuts seedlings for commercial production. During a short period of time Moldova has managed to become the largest nuts exporter if Europe - it has been ahead the recognized EU leaders as to this parameter.
