Revenues of Iranian pistachio exports amounted to $1.2 billion past year
Press TV informs, past year Iran exported 220,000 tons of pistachio for the total sum worth to around $ 1.2 billion. So, pistachio has become the second important export item for the country economics; the first important item is oil.
Production of Iranian pistachio is concentrated in Kerman province where almost 75% of cultivation areas are allocated for this crop. Up to 90% of pistachios are grown there. Iran has great plans on this crop, although the yield of pistachio cultivation areas is thrice as low in Iran than in USA and Turkey. Meanwhile the global consumption per capita has not exceeded 1.5 g per year.
