Turkey, Russia, France and Moldova are the largest importers of Ukrainian walnut

The analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" are surveying Ukrainian nuts market in the framework of the preparation to the first international nut forum which takes place during "Interagro" exhibition in Kyiv on the 31st of January 2008.

One of the interesting moments of the survey is information about France and Moldova - these world leading producers and exporters of walnut belong to the group of importers of Ukrainian walnut. In 2006 Moldovan buyers imported 1,230 tons of walnut from Ukraine; French companies imported 1,100 tons. Moldova is the largest walnut exporter to Europe; taking this fact into account, we can suppose that Ukrainian walnut is re-exported from Moldova to EU countries.

Turkey is also one of the largest importers of Ukrainian walnut - this country performs almost one third of the total imports (5,800 tons in 2006); Syria, Holland, Greece, Italy and Russia are also large importers. We'd like to point out that Russia sharply increased the purchases of Ukrainian walnut in 2007.

According to the data of the official statistics, in 2006 Ukraine exported 18,500 tons of walnut; at the same time, the imports of this product were almost absent. Approximately the same volume was exported in 2005. However, according to our estimations, the exporting volumes may decline down to 10-12,000 tons because of the increased inner consumption and production decline in 2006 - this fact affected the shipment process in the first half of 2007.

You will find out the details of the situation on nuts market and perspectives of its development, and also about technologies and opportunities of walnut, hazelnut and almond production in Ukraine during the first international nut forum.
