Russia rejected to cancel the ban for fruit and vegetable imports from Poland

Russia will fully lift restrictions for the supplies of plant products from Poland imposed in November 2005 because of the detected pesticides. Mr. Alexey Gordeyev, the Minister of Agriculture of Russian Federation shared this information with the journalists this Saturday.

"We fully allow imports of those plant products which do not relate to food", Mr. Gordeyev made the conclusion on the signing the memorandum with Marik Savitskiy, the Minister of Agriculture of Poland in the sphere of phyto-sanitary.

He explained that he meant flowers and seedlings, seeds, fertilizers and forage. However, the parties have not agreed yet on the issue of the resumed supplies of the other plant products, fruits and vegetables in particular. The obstacle is different legislative norms of two countries regarding the upper limit of pesticides content in such products.

"This was another step on the way of normalization of the contacts between Russian Federation and Poland. We are satisfied with the fact that another group of Polish products is able to enter Russian market", Mr. Savitskiy said.

The Ministers informed that the negotiations about the resumed supplies of Polish fruits and vegetables will be continued on the level of European Commission under participation of Markus Kiprianu and Mariann Fischer Boel, the Commissars.

Mr. Gordeyev is now in Berlin on a working visit in the framework of the international agricultural exhibition-fair "Greune Woche 2008", IA "RIA News" informs.
