Turkish hazelnut exports generated $ 1.5 billion of profit for the state treasury

Hazelnut turned out to be one of the most demanded Turkish products in 2007, Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) informs. The imports of Turkish hazelnut brought around $4.1 mln. of profit to the treasury on a daily basis (i.e. around $1.5 billion per year) in 2007.

It is interesting to mention that hazelnut was also the product which exports increased the most significantly in 2007. The export shipments increased almost 32% comparing to 2006.

According to the data of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits", Ukraine is a large importer of hazelnut; our country mostly purchase this product in Turkey. In 2006 hazelnut imports amounted to 2,800 tons for the total sum worth around $21 mln. Turkish supplies amounted to 81% of the total volumes of the imported hazelnut.

Ukraine has good opportunities for successful production of hazelnut in the southern regions of the country. Taking into account a high interest to this topic, "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" gathers all nut growers of Ukraine in Kyiv, on the 31st of January 2008 for participation in the first international nuts forum. The event will take place in the framework of "InterAGRO" exhibition.
